Project CITY100

  • Principal Investigator: Joni Mayer
  • Project Funding Period: 2003-2008
  • Project Funding Source: National Cancer Institute
Summary:
CITY100 represents the most comprehensive assessment of the indoor tanning “epidemic” among teens to date. Data were collected to better understand why teens use indoor tanning, including parent and peer factors, attitudes about a tan, sociodemographic factors, availability of indoor tanning facilities, presence and stringency of indoor tanning legislation and its actual enforcement, and practices of indoor tanning facilities. The results are being used to develop more effective interventions for preventing and reducing teen indoor tanning.
