Principal Investigator: John P. Elder
Project funding period: 03/01/2006-10/31/2011

Summary:
MOVE/me Muevo was a randomized controlled trial to design, implement and evaluate a recreation center-based obesity prevention and control intervention for children between the ages of 5 and 8 years-old and their families by targeting physical activity and dietary behaviors. The primary aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of a two-year multi-level intervention offered in English or Spanish to prevent the onset of overweight and obesity as determined by the child’s body mass index. There were 541 child and parent participants from San Diego County and 30 recreation centers (18 families per center who lived within 1.75 miles of a center).
